I started at the Hitzkirch Sekundarschule this week. It is year 7-9 and has around 300 students from 5 surrounding villages. I’m in year 8 here as they don’t start school until they are 6 or 7 years old in Switzerland.

The building where I have most of my classes

My teachers name is Herr Küng, he’s young, funny and really nice. Every morning when we arrive we shake our teachers hand and say Gruezi Herr Küng. There are 20 students in my class. I think Switzerland has the highest paid teachers in the world, and one of the top rated education systems. They really care a lot.

Some different subjects here, like woodworking where I used a circular saw and other serious machinery. Students have to learn German, French and English but they let me off the hook for French and instead I do some extra German classes. This afternoon we have Hauswertschaft. They teach us to do cooking, washing, household chores. Mums pretty happy about that! We also have music classes, alternating with religious studies (optional if you aren’t a catholic).

They have two massive gyms, one for girls and one for boys. Football fields, hockey, basketball… we do lots of physical exercise called Sport und Bewegung.

I ride my bike to school, like most students. It’s about 5 mins away. Somedays I start at 7.20am and finish at 5pm. But we get to go home over lunch for nearly 2 hours.
